Amazon UK Stranded Inventory: What It Is and How to Fix It

Stranded stock is sitting in an Amazon fulfilment centre with no live offer attached, so nobody can buy it. You still pay storage on it. This guide covers the usual causes, where to find it, and what to do about each one.

The short answer

Stock is stranded when Amazon holds sellable units but your offer for that SKU is not live. Open Fix stranded inventory in Seller Central, read the reason against each SKU, then relist, fix the listing or create a removal order. Do it weekly. Stranded units keep paying storage and, depending on your settings, Amazon can remove or dispose of them automatically.

Where to find it

On UK accounts the stranded list sits under Inventory › Manage FBA Inventory, with a stranded inventory view or a Fix stranded inventory page depending on which version of the menu you have. The FBA dashboard and inventory health pages also show a stranded count. The list gives each SKU, the stranded reason, the quantity and the actions available. You can also download the stranded inventory report if you want to work through it in a spreadsheet.

The usual causes

Stranded reasonWhat usually happenedFirst thing to try
Inactive or closed listingYou closed the offer, or it went inactive after a stock-out or a price changeRelist from the stranded page
Listing deletedThe SKU was deleted while units were still in a fulfilment centreRecreate the offer on the same ASIN with the same SKU
Pricing error or suppressed priceYour price sits outside Amazon's reference range or below your own minimumCheck price and min/max settings, including your repricer
Listing blocked or removed for a policy reasonSafety, compliance, restricted product or intellectual property reviewRead the Account Health or listing notice, then appeal or remove
Missing informationRequired attributes, dangerous goods data or compliance documents not suppliedEdit the listing and add what is asked for
Fulfilment channel set to merchantThe offer was switched to FBM while FBA units were still heldSwitch the offer back to Amazon fulfilment

Reason names change from time to time. If the wording on your account differs, go by the action Amazon offers next to the SKU.

Fixing a listing problem

  1. Open the SKU from the stranded list and read the full reason, not just the label.
  2. If the listing is inactive, use Relist and confirm the price. Many stranded cases clear in minutes this way.
  3. If the price is the problem, check whether a repricer pushed it below a floor or above a ceiling, or whether Amazon has suppressed it as uncompetitive. Fix the rule in the repricer too, or it will happen again.
  4. If attributes or documents are missing, edit the listing and add them. Dangerous goods reviews can take a while; keep the case ID.
  5. Recheck the next day. A SKU that is still stranded after a fix usually has a second issue behind the first.

When a policy block means the stock cannot be sold

If a listing has been removed for safety, intellectual property or a restriction you cannot get approved for, the honest answer may be that the units will not sell on Amazon UK. Appeal if you have the evidence, such as an invoice from an authorised supplier for an IP complaint. If you do not, create a removal order and decide what to do with the stock off Amazon. Our IP claims guide and restricted categories guide cover those two routes in more detail.

Check your automatic removal settings

Amazon UK and EU accounts have automated settings for stranded stock, found from the stranded inventory page. They decide what happens if you do nothing after a stranded notice: for example, return to an address you set, or dispose. Look at them now rather than finding out after units have gone. Make sure the return address is one that can actually take a delivery, such as your own address or a prep centre that has agreed to receive removals.

Why weekly matters

Stranded units pay monthly storage like any other unit, they count towards your storage capacity, and they age. Left long enough they also attract aged inventory surcharges. A weekly look at the stranded list takes a few minutes on a small account.
