FBA Removal Orders on Amazon UK: When to Remove, Dispose or Reprice

A removal order gets your units out of Amazon's fulfilment centres, either back to you or disposed of. It costs a per-unit fee and takes time, so it is not always the right call. This guide covers when to remove, how to do it and how to check it arrived complete.

The short answer

Remove stock when it cannot be sold on Amazon (stranded with no fix, unfulfillable, policy-blocked), or when the units are worth more off Amazon than the storage and price cuts it would take to sell them there. Create the order from Manage FBA Inventory, track it with the removal reports, and count what arrives against what was shipped.

Remove, dispose or reprice?

Work this out per SKU, using the current rate card for your size tier rather than a rule of thumb.

OptionMakes sense whenWatch out for
Reprice and keep sellingThe product still sells, just slowly, and a lower price still clears your costsStorage and aged inventory charges while you wait
Return to you or a prep centreThe stock has resale value elsewhere, or can be relabelled and sent back inRemoval fee, onward postage and the time units are off sale
DisposeUnits are damaged, expired or worth less than the cost of getting them backDisposal is final; record it for your stock accounts

Other routes such as liquidation or donation depend on what Amazon offers on the UK marketplace at the time. Check the options shown on your removal order page.

How to create a removal order

  1. Go to Inventory › Manage FBA Inventory (or the stranded or unfulfillable view) and select the SKUs.
  2. Choose Create removal order from the actions menu.
  3. Pick Ship to address or Dispose, enter quantities for sellable and unfulfillable units separately, and check the address.
  4. Give the order an ID you will recognise, such as the date and the reason, so it is easy to find in reports later.
  5. Review the fee estimate and submit.

For many SKUs at once there is a bulk upload option. Amazon's own recommended removal report is a starting list, not an instruction; check each line against sales before you act on it.

Cancelling

A voluntary removal can generally only be cancelled while it is still in an early status (Planning or Pending in Seller Central), and it may already be in progress by then. Removals Amazon requires, for example for unsuitable or stranded stock under its policies, are not yours to cancel. Decide before you submit.

Tracking it to your door

Two reports do the work, both under Reports › Fulfilment on UK accounts at the time of writing:

Removals often arrive in several parcels over a period of days or weeks, especially in busy months, and the boxes are Amazon's, not yours. Do not assume a removal is complete because one parcel turned up.

Count on arrival

Log each parcel against its tracking number, count units by SKU and photograph anything damaged. If the order shows as complete and fewer units arrived than the shipment detail says were sent, that is a reimbursement case, and you will need your counts and photos. See FBA reimbursement claims: how to check.

Sending removed stock back in

If you plan to resend units, check their condition first. Returned stock can come back with Amazon labels, stickers or scuffed packaging. Relabel with the correct FNSKU, fix the packaging to Amazon's prep rules and create a new shipment. Some sellers have reported that a product can be blocked from FBA for a period after a removal; check the notice on the SKU before you plan around resending.

Keep the paperwork

Disposed and removed stock affects your stock figures. HMRC expects you to keep receipts for goods and stock, and limited companies must record year-end stock and the stocktakes behind it. A removal report export saved each month, with your arrival counts, is usually enough to show what happened to every unit.
