Amazon UK Seller Fees Explained: A Worked FBA Example

Four fees decide most of what an FBA sale pays you: the selling plan, the referral fee, the fulfilment fee and monthly storage. Here is each one, taken from Amazon's own UK fee pages, then worked through for a fictional £24.99 product.

The short answer

For a fictional £24.99 product in a 15% referral category, sitting in the standard parcel ≤400g tier, Amazon's fees come to about £6.84 per unit outside the peak window and about £6.98 during it. That leaves roughly £18 before product cost, inbound shipping, prep, VAT and your monthly plan. Every figure below comes from Amazon's published UK fee pages, checked on the dates shown.

1. The selling plan

Amazon UK has two plans. The Individual plan charges £0.75 per item sold plus selling fees. The Professional plan costs £25 a month (excluding VAT) plus selling fees, with no per-item charge. If you expect to sell more than about 33 units a month, Professional is cheaper on plan fees alone, and it is the plan you need for most FBA tools and features.

2. The referral fee

This is Amazon's commission on each sale. It is a percentage of the total sales price (what the buyer pays, including any delivery charge and VAT), with a per-item minimum of £0.25 in most categories. Examples from Amazon's UK pricing page:

CategoryReferral fee
Books15% (no minimum)
Beauty, Health and Personal Care8% up to £10; 15% above £10
Clothing and Accessories5% up to £15; 10% from £15 to £20; 15% above £20
Home Products8% up to £20; 15% above £20
Consumer Electronics, Computers7%
Grocery and Gourmet5% up to £10; 15% above £10 (no minimum)
Everything else15%

Price bands matter. A beauty product at £9.99 pays 8%; the same product at £10.49 pays 15%. Always check the full referral fee table in Seller Central for your exact category.

3. The FBA fulfilment fee

This is a flat per-unit fee for picking, packing and delivering an order. It depends on the product's size tier and shipping weight, not its price (apart from the Low-Price FBA rates, which Amazon has extended to products priced at or below £20). Three things to know for 2026:

Amazon's 2026 peak rate card lists the standard parcel ≤400g tier at £3.01 non-peak and £3.12 peak. Your product's exact tier comes from its measured dimensions and weight, so confirm it in the fee preview or the FBA Revenue Calculator.

4. Monthly storage

Storage is charged per cubic foot per month based on the average space your units occupy. Amazon's current UK rates:

Product typeJanuary to SeptemberOctober to December
Standard-size (most categories)£0.76£1.51
Standard-size clothing, eyewear, footwear, rucksacks and handbags£0.62£0.82
Oversize£0.55£0.87
Standard-size dangerous goods£0.74£1.30
Oversize dangerous goods£0.70£1.11

The October to December rate for most standard-size products is roughly double. Slow sellers sent in for Q4 can cost more in storage than you expect, and separate aged-inventory charges can apply to stock that sits too long.

The worked example

A fictional product: sale price £24.99, in a category charged at the standard 15% referral rate, packaged at 20 × 15 × 4 cm (about 0.042 cubic feet) and under 400g, so it falls in the standard parcel ≤400g tier. Fees are shown excluding VAT, as Amazon publishes them.

LineNon-peak (e.g. March)Peak (e.g. November)
Sale price paid by buyer£24.99£24.99
Referral fee (15% of £24.99)£3.75£3.75
Fulfilment fee£3.01£3.12
1.5% fuel and logistics surcharge on fulfilment£0.05£0.05
Storage (0.042 ft³ × monthly rate, one month)£0.03£0.06
Total Amazon fees per unit£6.84£6.98
Left before costs below£18.15£18.01

From that £18 you still need to take off:

Why the example uses £24.99

Products priced at or below £20 may qualify for Low-Price FBA rates, which use a different fee table and are excluded from the peak fee. A £24.99 product keeps the example on the standard rate card.

How to check a real product in two minutes

  1. Search the ASIN in the FBA Revenue Calculator or your sourcing tool to get the size tier and fee estimate.
  2. Check the category's referral band against your planned sale price.
  3. Add the surcharge, storage for the months you expect to hold stock, and peak fees if you will sell between mid-October and mid-January.
  4. Use the Keepa price history rather than today's price. Our Keepa chart guide shows how.
